Charger Unit Costs

The prices above are for labour and materials only. The charger unit itself is additional. Here's a rough guide to charger costs in New Zealand:

EVnex E2 (NZ-made, 7.4 kW): $600 – $900

Wallbox Pulsar Plus (7.4 kW, smart): $900 – $1,200

myenergi Zappi (7.4 kW, solar-smart): $1,100 – $1,500

Rolec EV (7.4 kW, weatherproof): $800 – $1,100

We can supply any of these units, or we'll install a charger you've already purchased. We'll advise on what's best for your EV and situation.

What Can Make a Job More Expensive?

Most installations fall within the price ranges above. A few things can push costs higher:

Long cable runs — if the switchboard is at the front of the house and the garage is at the back, the cable run may be 30m+. More cable = more cost.

Switchboard upgrade — old fuse boards or full switchboards need upgrading before a new circuit can be added. This adds $800–$1,500 but is money well spent.

Trenching — if the cable needs to go underground to reach a detached garage, trenching is required. We'll quote this separately.

Three-phase charger — if you want a 22 kW three-phase charger, this needs three-phase power at your property and more complex wiring. We can advise.

Cost of Charging at Home

With a 7.4 kW home charger and standard Canterbury electricity rates (approx. $0.30/kWh):

Nissan Leaf (40 kWh):
~$12 for a full charge

Tesla Model 3 (60 kWh):
~$18 for a full charge

BYD Atto 3 (60 kWh):
~$18 for a full charge

Compare to $80–$100+ to fill a petrol tank. The charger pays for itself fast.

Pricing FAQs

Yes. Once we've assessed the site and given you a written quote, that's the price. The only exception is if you ask us to do additional work that wasn't in the original scope. We'll never hit you with surprise charges after the job is done.
We don't do site visits — instead, simply send us photos of your switchboard and the area where you'd like the charger installed, along with the approximate distance between the two. From this, we provide a fixed-price written quote, completely free with no obligation. You decide if you want to proceed — no pressure.
As of 2024, there are no direct government subsidies for residential EV charger installation in New Zealand. However, some power companies (like Contact Energy and Meridian) have offered EV charging plans or incentives — check with your retailer. We'll provide all the documentation you need to claim any available rebates.
We accept payment by bank transfer or credit card. For larger jobs, we can discuss staged payments. Give us a call to talk through options — we want to make home EV charging accessible for everyone.
