We're a Christchurch-based team of EWRB-registered electricians who have built our business around one thing: making fast, safe, legally-compliant home EV charging accessible to every Christchurch homeowner — at a price that's genuinely competitive.
We operate as the residential EV charging division of an established Canterbury electrical business with 20+ years of residential electrical experience. As EV adoption accelerated in Christchurch, we recognised a gap: homeowners were being let down by expensive general electrician quotes, unlicensed installers, and chargers fitted without Certificates of Compliance. We set out to do better — and the response has been overwhelming.
Christchurch-based, EWRB-registered, fully insured residential EV charger specialists
Our founders have been working in Christchurch residential electrical installation for over two decades — through the post-earthquake rebuild, the heat pump boom, and the shift to all-electric homes. When Christchurch's EV adoption began accelerating in 2021–2022, we started seeing the same problems repeatedly: homeowners paying $3,000–$4,000 for simple installations, being told they needed expensive switchboard upgrades that weren't actually necessary, and occasionally discovering their charger had been installed without a Certificate of Compliance.
We also noticed that every general electrician approach to EV chargers was slightly different — inconsistent quality, inconsistent advice, inconsistent pricing. There was no specialist. There was no one who just did EV chargers, every day, in every type of Christchurch home, with the accumulated knowledge of hundreds of installations.
So we created one. Christchurch EV Chargers was established as a dedicated residential EV charging installation service — EWRB-registered, fully compliant, highly competitive on pricing, and built on the principle that honest advice and quality workmanship should be the standard, not the exception.
Work With Us
These aren't marketing phrases. They're the reasons we turn down certain work, recommend cheaper alternatives, and sometimes lose a job by being too honest. We're fine with that.
We'll tell you when a $150 DLB charger upgrade saves you a $2,500 switchboard upgrade. We'll tell you when our charger isn't the best fit for your situation. We'll tell you exactly what we found at your switchboard and why. Honesty doesn't cost us — it's what builds the trust that brings referrals.
Every installation follows AS/NZS 3000 wiring standards. Every job receives a Certificate of Compliance from a Licensed Electrical Inspector. Every circuit has appropriate RCD protection. We do not install EV chargers without a CoC — ever. Not for a lower price, not to speed up a job, not for any reason.
We benchmark our prices against the market regularly. We are consistently competitive — not loss-leading, but genuinely fair. We believe every Christchurch EV owner deserves access to fast home charging at a price that doesn't require budgeting for months. Our specialisation is what makes this possible.
We genuinely believe in Christchurch's shift to sustainable transport. Faster, cheaper, simpler EV charger installation means more EV drivers, which means better air quality, less fuel spending, and a lower-carbon Canterbury. We're not just installing chargers — we're enabling a transition.
Before you hire any electrician to install an EV charger in your Christchurch home, ask for their EWRB registration number and confirm it on the EWRB public register. An unlicensed installation doesn't get a Certificate of Compliance — meaning your home insurance may be invalid, and you may need to disclose it on sale.

We've installed home EV chargers for owners of virtually every EV currently on Christchurch roads. Here's a sample of what we work with regularly:
The Patel family had a unique and complex situation: two EVs (a Volvo XC40 Recharge and a Tesla Model 3), both needing home charging from a shared two-car garage. Their 2012 Ilam home had an 80A three-phase supply — excellent capacity in theory, but the switchboard was nearly full, and two simultaneous 7.4kW chargers would draw 14.8kW combined — potentially exceeding their actual load budget when combined with their heat pump, hot water system, and electric underfloor heating. They'd been told by one company that they needed two separate 32A circuits, a switchboard expansion, and a mains supply upgrade — totalling over $6,500 for the electrical work alone, before the chargers were even added. They suspected there had to be a more intelligent solution and specifically searched for an EV charging specialist before committing.
We assessed the 2012 Ilam home and identified a solution the previous company had not considered: Wallbox's built-in Power Boost power-sharing protocol. Two Wallbox Pulsar Plus 7.4kW units can communicate with each other over WiFi and coordinate their combined output in real time — meaning a single CT clamp on the mains is shared between both chargers, and the two units dynamically divide available capacity between themselves. Neither charger ever draws more than the available headroom above the household load. We installed two dedicated circuits from the switchboard to the garage — one per charger — and a single CT clamp on the mains tails. No switchboard expansion was required; the existing 80A three-phase supply had ample capacity once the charging load was managed intelligently rather than simply added as two fixed 32A loads. Both chargers were commissioned, the power-sharing pairing was confirmed, and a Certificate of Compliance covering both circuits was issued on the day of installation.
Both EVs — the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Tesla Model 3 — wake up fully charged every morning. The Wallbox power-sharing system distributes overnight capacity between the two cars automatically; on nights when only one car is plugged in, that charger runs at full 7.4kW. When both are charging simultaneously, the system balances their draw in real time so the combined load never puts the household at risk. The switchboard expansion and mains supply upgrade quoted at over $6,500 were never carried out and were never needed. The Patels paid a fraction of that figure for a two-charger solution that outperforms what the original company had proposed. Dr Patel notes that the outcome was only possible because the installer understood the Wallbox power-sharing capability — a feature a generalist electrician would be unlikely to know existed, let alone configure correctly. Both cars have charged at home exclusively since installation, with no public charging required for daily use.
"We drove ourselves in circles trying to figure out how to charge two EVs in one garage without spending a fortune on electrical work. The solution turned out to be far more elegant — and far cheaper — than we'd imagined. The specialist knowledge made all the difference." — Dr R. Patel, Ilam, Christchurch
